Mr. Narayana Murthy was born on August 20, 1946 in Karnataka, India. Murthy obtained his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (B.E.) from University of Mysore in 1967 and his Master of Technology (M.Tech.) from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur in 1969.

A Son of a small-town schoolteacher, he and six partners founded $1 billion (sales) Infosys Technologies. Murthy had a very humble begining to life. In an interview he mentioned that as a child he used to try and cultivate such recreational habits which did not require any money. For instance instead of going out for a movie he would stay back and play with his friends. He once remarked that because of paucity of money he could not do his BE from IIT not that it would have mattered to what infosys is right now.

Talking of that day when the seven friends decided to create Infosys Murthy says that they had lots of hope, confidence, commitment, energy, enthusiasm, hard work, passion and a sense of sacrifice. On the other hand they were short on money. His wife Sudha Murthy became the venture capitalist and provided them with Rs 10,000 as seed capital.

In the initial days Narayan Murthy said that he never dreamt about size, revenues and profits. The only dream they followed was to build a corporation that was, above all things, respected.

Murthy was instrumental in cultivating strong value systems within the team at Infosys. They put the company benefits ahead of their own interest - thus beleiving in legal moral and ethical business.

Infosys itself has seen consistent growth in revenue and profitability for over 50 quarters, since it got listed in India To retain the trust of investors, Murthey has followed a very simple mantra - under promise and over-deliver.

Every situation is what one makes it to be. Confidence is half the battle, and leadership is making the impossible look possible. Speed, imagination and excellence in execution are the only three context-invariant and time-invariant attributes for success are some of the golden quotes from the Murthy school of business management.

Like J.R.D Tata Murthy says that to achieve extra ordinary results, you must surround yourself with people smarter than you - and set them free.
An finally the philanthropist Murthy with some of the founder members of infosys have contributed more then a billion rupees for the upgradation of the IIT centers. The Infosys founder member says that unless a person makes a difference to the society and earn their trust, he can never become long-term players. Therefore, in everything that humans do they should ask themselves whether we they are adding value to the society regardless of which part of the globe they are in.
